Well, that’s a wrap on release week promotion for Born and Raised. It’s so phenomenally weird to wake up this morning at home and not in the back of a bus somewhere. On the bright side, releasing this album and getting back in touch with my fans has been something I’ve been waiting to experience for a long time now. I’m finally at a place in my life where I can truly appreciate the kindness and support, and you have shown me lots of it. Thank you for that.

As I understand it, the album is set to enter the charts at number one, which is just incredible on all your parts because there has been very little I’ve been able to do to promote it. In a world of schemes and strategies when it comes to selling something, you guys just bought music you trusted you’d like. You picked it up in the same way I made it… from the heart, no trickery. That is so cool and rare and all the marketeers in the world together can’t manufacture that. I am very grateful to you. 

The making of this record was purposely undocumented, but there are a few iPhone videos and some photos to share. I figure I’ll do that here, and more often than I usually have in the past. Even if this album slides off the charts in a month, it doesn’t make it any less special to me, and we should all be digging this music together, like we would have (and will again) on stage.

AND since I saw this picture almost a year ago here on tumblr (sorry I dont remember in which one…), I was so hoping to hear the song… But I have faith that someday we will…

John Mayer: ‘I can’t sing, so I’m writing’

John Mayer, sporting long hair and a big hat, chats with Ellen DeGeneres on her show today, explaining why he took a break for the last two years.

“I just sort of lost my head for a little while,” he says. “I did some kind of dumb interviews and that woke me up.”

Was he referring to his 2010 Playboy interview (in which he used the n-word)?

Replies Mayer, “Oh yeah, I don’t even remember having aRolling Stone cover. It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult. For a couple of years it was just figuring it all out and I’m glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight. Because I think back then I would of said, give me two weeks or like let me get out and do Ellen and let me explain myself. It was like, ‘No, idiot.’ Go away be 33 and 34 instead of 28 for the fourth year.”

He moved to Montana, which is where he’s living now as he continues to recover from vocal surgery.

“I can’t sing, so I’m writing,” he tells Ellen, explaining, “It’s a thing in my throat. It’s not a health concern whatsoever, but it has taken me out of singing. Tried to beat it the first time and couldn’t. What they actually do is they cut this thing out of your throat and then they inject your vocal cords with Botox which freezes your vocal cords so that this thing can heal without smacking up against the other side. I just need more Botox next time. So I got to do it all over again get more Botox which kind of paralyzes for vocal cord for longer. I’m very happy to be a writer, really lucky to be a writer.”
